Join SMSKN for this Seamanship presentation by Tom Bergh, in the MIKCo Boathouse on Peaks Island. Paddle over or take the ferry.

Sea kayaking places us directly within two primary and unusual marine energy systems: tides and their resulting currents, and ocean swell with their long periods. Wind, above all environmental variables, has the greatest daily impact on most sea paddlers.

Awareness of the often fast changing environment enables us to make safe, effective decisions while on the sea. Tom’s presentation will emphasize the importance of the judgmental variables of wind and waves, tides and currents, weather systems, the effects of landforms and the influences of these changing variables on your route selection.
