Ham Radio University: Planning session
Details
Ham Radio University is a dream I have had for a few years, and I have finally gotten enough equipment to get it off the ground.
The idea of the University is to hold regular events where people can come to learn about some aspects of Amateur Radio that might be confusing to tackle alone. I have put some ideas for topics we might cover on my Website.
SPECS Ham Radio University
Here's the thing: I need help from other hams, both to help me learn the subjects we need to teach, and to step up from time to time and show up to be an Elmer. I have heard that events like this don't get enough regular attendance to justify a single club running it, but if all the clubs work together this could work. I will take point to get it going.
I would like folks to show up for this first meeting and provide ideas on what subjects would be best to raise the level of knowledge of our hams, and solicit suggestions for the best way to disseminate that information. I would like to see us do more events to generate public interest, and perhaps recruit younger people to Amateur Radio. Looking for ideas! I am willing to take point on this, but I can't do it alone.
I would also like to see if we can get volunteers to come out in early January for a University session to help out folks who may have gotten radios or equipment for Christmas.
I need advice from folks to go over the equipment I have scraped together, and recommend the best possible configuration for a GOTA and training station. Do you have a station you can set up at future events? Lets talk about how to do this! Do you have other locations that might be a good place to host an event? Does your club have an event and could use some help? Might you want to host a session?
