We Hike to Heal Middle Georgia - Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge

Details

We'll be hiking the Red Cockaded Woodpecker trail at Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, a 3 mile trail just 25 miles north of Macon and 85 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta. This is an easy to moderate hike with opportunities to see birds and other wildlife. We welcome all fitness levels to join us; the goal is to enjoy the journey, we are never in a race!
Once we reach about halfway, we'll plan to take a break to catch our breath, enjoy the view and do a little gratitude journaling!
Time: 10am (please be punctual!)
Location/Directions: Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center Hillsboro, GA 31038
GPS location coordinates: 486C+GP Hillsboro, Georgia
Parking: Continue past the visitor center and at the end of the road (Allison Lake Road) there is a parking lot
Difficulty level/Distance: Easy to moderate
Restroom Facilities: There are no bathrooms, prepare to pack out any toilet paper/wipes you bring in
What you will need for this hike:

  • Plenty of water to drink! (we recommend at least 1-3 liters)
  • Bug spray - there are ticks and mosquitoes

  • Comfortable moisture wicking clothing - workout clothes work just fine!
  • A daypack/backpack to carry all your items
  • A towel to sit on if you're uncomfortable sitting on the ground
