What we’re about
The goal of this group is to build a Southern Tier coalition to promote the development of new nuclear power in New York State. We'll be connected with an existing nonprofit called Nuclear New York with the same goals, whose current membership is mostly downstate.
See more about the parent org here: https://www.nuclearny.org/about/
This group is nonpartisan, focused on one of the few topics today that enjoys bipartisan support among the public and congress, although more is needed to build political will to deliver new nuclear power.
We will meet monthly in various locations depending on our members (e.g. Ithaca, Elmira, Corning, Binghamton) with an online option as well.
We'll share updates about statewide efforts supporting nuclear power, organize pro nuclear events, share knowledge about nuclear power and the state's energy grid, and plan outreach to our elected representatives.
The hope is that this coalition is broad and consists of people from many walks of life, and with varied connections in business, society, local government, etc. We may have different reasons for supporting nuclear power (high quality job creation, reliable baseload energy, climate change, combating energy sprawl, etc) but will work together toward a common goal. Here are some good resources about why nuclear power is needed:
https://www.nuclearny.org/why-nuclear/
This is also a social group and we aim to have fun, enjoying food and drinks after meetings as we're able. We are open to people who want to learn more about nuclear energy.
