# 🌿 Archetypes of Healing: The Orphan

### Belonging, Loss & the Courage to Trust Again

Inspired by Carol S. Pearson’s The Hero Within, the Hero’s Journey, Jungian archetypal psychology, Indigenous wisdom traditions, and shadow work, Archetypes of Healing is a Medicine Way Talking Circle series exploring the universal patterns that shape our healing, relationships, and personal growth.

The Orphan emerges when the world we once trusted no longer feels safe or certain. Loss, abandonment, betrayal, grief, family wounds, or simply the realization that life cannot always protect us can awaken this archetype. Yet the Orphan’s journey is not only about what was lost—it is also about discovering resilience, discernment, and a deeper understanding of belonging.

From an Indigenous-informed perspective, healing is relational. We are reminded that we were never meant to carry every hardship alone. Through community, storytelling, shared wisdom, and right relationship, we can begin to restore trust while learning that belonging does not require abandoning ourselves.

We’ll also consider how non-ordinary states of consciousness can bring wounds of abandonment, grief, and disconnection into awareness, offering opportunities to meet these experiences with greater compassion and understanding.

## 🌿 What We’ll Explore:

### ☀️ The Gift

  • Resilience born through lived experience
  • Empathy and compassion for the suffering of others
  • Discernment and realistic trust
  • Finding strength through community
  • Recognizing our shared humanity

### 🌒 The Shadow

  • Fear of abandonment or rejection
  • Mistrust and expecting disappointment
  • Isolation or difficulty asking for help
  • Victimhood, helplessness, or hopelessness
  • Seeking belonging at the expense of authenticity

### 🌱 The Invitation

To grieve what was lost without allowing the wound to define the rest of our story—and to discover that trust can be rebuilt through relationship, self-awareness, and community.

### 🪶 Walking in Beauty

Together, we’ll explore how the Orphan appears in relationships, attachment, friendship, family, and community while considering practical ways to rebuild trust, ask for support, strengthen belonging, and remain connected to ourselves.
