Wauponsee Glacial Trail from the Sugar Creek Preserve, about 4 miles
Details
The Wauponsee Trail is paved going north of Laraway. We will hike north on the Wauponsee Glacial Trail about 2 miles, then turn around to return to the parking lot.
We will begin in the south end (closest to Laraway Rd) of the parking lot of the Sugar Creek Preserve, 17540 Laraway Rd, Joliet, IL 60433. This is the location of the Will County Forest Preserve headquarters. The trailhead is at the edge of the parking lot.
The trail follows the abandoned right-of-way of two former railroads. It gets its name from a lake that covered the area about 13,000 years ago during the last ice age.
The weather is projected to be in the 80s, but feel like 90 degrees. It will be partly cloudy with a low chance of rain, so dress accordingly.
