Please join me for the last big walk of British summer time, 2024 will be my 10th year of running this walk before the clocks change!

This is a strenuous walk of approx. 12 miles with some steep hills along tracks and paths with some uneven rocky sections in places with a total accent of approx. 1,600ft.
Attendees need to wear suitable walking boots/shoes and have appropriate clothing depending on weather conditions, along with sufficient food and drink for the length of walk.

The Walk
This is a long circular walk from Box starting with a long climb up through the woods towards the Quarrymans arms before heading out of Box towards Ford leaving all houses behind. There is a mix of footpaths and surfaced lanes before it becomes steep hilly wooded tracks as we pick up an old track through woods near Colerne nature reserve en-route to Slaughterford. In Slaughterford we may sit by the river for a short break, but with this extended walk to Ford and the White Hart for toilets an refreshments just a mile further, this may be a short stop. After our stop in Ford, we retrace our footsteps a while along the meadow before climbing up over the hills and on to Colerne and potentially another short stop!
Then it's back to be Box via Ditteridge.

Warning: This is a long walk with uneven paths at times, and some of the hills seem to go on and on just when you think you're at the top.

I'm predicting approx 6 hours walking time to include taking in the views and breaks..... but this could vary depending on the group.

Dogs
Dogs are allowed with well behaved owners who are on a lead!

Weather: This walk could be shortened on the day if the weather isn't good to us!
Please check the weather before leaving home and come appropriately prepared.

The debrief: This will be just across the playing fields from the cars at the Queens Head, Box.

You are responsible for closing ALL gates behind you, especially where Livestock are present. If dogs are allowed on a walk, they should be kept on a lead and you are responsible for lifting your dog over stiles if there are no dog access points. You are responsible for your transport to and from the meeting place and if you choose to lift share it is your decision.
