The Westernmost 14ers in Colorado are some of the best! We visited in 2022 and were very impressed, plus El Diente is famous as one of the harder ones to get. Roach describes the West Ridge in his latest books, and I saw it is easy walk-up to 13800 on a long grassy ridge. So I've scheduled two nights from a camp in Kilpacker Basin with an easy pack in, or perhaps a car camp and long day hike.
Rating: Strenuous to 13800, then Mountaineer to the top
Distance: 5 mile & 2100' backpack on Day 1
~ 3 miles & 1900' gain to El Diente on Day 2
Pack out downhill and go to to Mancos Brewing, then US550 home.
We can go through Gallina to US550 for the fastest and most scenic route, so ABQ folks could meet us in Cuba.
