Sam's House to Pine Island ( 4.5+ miles )
Details
Come join us on a 4.5+ mile hike by mangroves and estuaries of the Indian River lagoon and on to some open preserve. When you're done, if you have never done so, it might be fun to tour the grounds of the oldest home in Brevard County. You can learn about the Sams' family and extended family as they left their poverty stricken surroundings in South Carolina after the Civil War and settled in our area.
We also will be hiking a stretch of the Pine Island Conservation area that is owned by EEL and has been set aside for storm water management.
A large portion of this hike will be under the cover of a forest, but it is important that you bring sunscreen as the hike at Pine Island Conservation area will be under open sunshine. Also don't forget hydration, insect repellent, and PPE.
