Brumley road trailhead - Little Big Econ State Forest WMA
Details
HIKE LEADER: GARY W 248-943-5240 CELL
8 mile hike with 5.4 mile option
DESCRIPTION:
We will park at the newly remodeled trailhead and parking lots Then proceed about a mile on unpaved road until we come upon a dense forest of Spanish-moss covered live oaks on the White trail. Then we will be hiking on the Yellow trail along a high ridge overlooking the Econlockhatchee river until it ends just before the junction with the St. Johns river. Lots of interesting wildlife and flora to meet your senses. Some hikers have seen wild horses out there. This is an easy hike of 8 miles with a 5.4 mile option for hikers who wish to turn around at the park benches . Please remember to bring hydration, sunscreen, snacks, and PPE. BTW, cell phone reception at this location is sparse, so don't count on my being able to answer a cell phone call from you out there, though it is likely that I will be able to at the trail head.
NOTE: I have verified that April 15th is an open date on the hunting calendar for this wildlife management area, although it has been noted that on an occasion, hikers have seen deer hunters illegally shooting at deer on the banks of the Econ river from their pontoon or motor boats.
