Title: Distributed Time Series Analysis: Before and after Spark SQL

Abstract:
The first part of the talk will be focused on Flint: an open source time series analysis library on Spark. We will discuss the pros and cons of creating your own RDD types, and dive into performance aspects. Then we will talk about the new feature of Spark 2.2: Spark session extensions and it’s value for developers of third-party libraries on Spark.

Bio:
Yuri Bogomolov is a Software Engineer at Two Sigma. He is one of key contributors to Flint, and focuses on building scalable and high performance tools with Apache Spark. Prior to joining Two Sigma, Yuri did big data analysis at Amazon.com (http://amazon.com/) and Yandex. Yuri is specialized in algorithms and distributed systems, also he has won several awards in international programming competitions (ACM ICPC, IEEEXtreme).

Cognitive Computing and its Applications

Speaker: Reah Miyara

Abstract:

This presentation will give an overview of the developing era of Cognitive Computing. I will illustrate potential use cases for cognitive technologies and demonstrate advancements in processing the ever increasing volume and complexity of data today, a collaboration between mankind and machine.

Bio:
Reah Miyara is a current product manager on the Watson Industry Applications team (https://www.ibm.com/blogs/watson/2016/08/im-going-watson-developer-conference/) and a former software engineer on the Watson Life team (http://ibm.co/21KOuFJ). A graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science, Reah’s experience includes developing enterprise technologies for the Mars Curiosity Rover at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, fraud detection systems using machine learning at Intuit, and cognitive cooking assistant Chef Watson (https://www.ibmchefwatson.com/) at IBM’s Watson group. When he is not driving technical strategy and development at IBM, empowering companies to make smarter business decisions, he can be seen DJ-ing for some of Hollywood’s hottest celebrities.
