The Event
Against a backdrop of pervasive uncertainty, the wellbeing and resilience of individuals, organisations, and communities at all scales hinges on our ability to grapple with the changes shaping our lives. Combining the big picture of alternative futures thinking with the concreteness of designed experiences lets us start to explore together what future scenarios might look and feel like to inhabit, in order to support strategy, deliberation, and decision-making in the present. Join this playful, hands-on workshop, and practise scaffolding collective imagination around whatever issues you care most about.
Our Speaker
Stuart Candy is a futurist, educator, consultant, and artist who for two decades has helped seed and grow a family of new cultural practices for thinking ahead that are now used worldwide, and variously framed as experiential futures, speculative design, design fiction, discursive design, worldbuilding, and design futures. Dr Candy has worked with Fortune 500 companies, United Nations agencies, the International Red Cross (IFRC), OECD, World Bank Climate Investment Funds, the BBC, The New York Times, Smithsonian Institution, National Film Board of Canada, Danish Design Center, Dubai's Museum of the Future, Brazil's Museum of Tomorrow, Alaska's Cook Inlet Tribal Council, and the United States Conference of Mayors,. Originally from Australia, he is based in Los Angeles, where he is Director of Situation Lab and Advisor at NASA JPL, and Mexico City, where he is Distinguished Visiting Professor of Critical Futures at Tec de Monterrey. He has been an artist in residence at multiple institutions, and has held academic appointments at leading design schools and universities, including most recently the inaugural professorship in Social Foresight at Parsons School of Design in New York, and the Bristol Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Visiting Professorship at the University of Bristol.
