Gold fish now have longer attention spans than humans (8 seconds) thanks to our high-tech world full of distractions.

This means that when we need to give our all-important pitch, we have mere moments before our audience (investors, clients, etc.) stop listening.

What to do?

Most people spend hours writing and re-writing their "perfect" pitch. They practice alone - speaking to the walls or to a lucky roommate.

The problem with this approach is that it's like learning how to drive a car by playing a racing video game - it's not the real thing.

Speech Party's third friendly Pitch Competition is designed to recreate the real thing for real results.

Here's what to expect:

-turning an idea / basic pitch into an awesome pitch using expertise and "creative crowdsourcing"

-practicing under pressure (in a realistic environment) to help you perform under pressure

-support and encouragement from the Speech Party family that makes public speaking easy peasy

This workshop not only speeds up the preparation process, it produces a pitch that keeps audiences on the edge of their seat.

The concept of this event is inspired by viral TED Talks and Steve Jobs’ Keynotes. It was recently discovered that all presentations that go viral share this in common:

The speaker would practice repeatedly with people and get feedback. They would use the feedback to tweak their material and/or style of delivery to come up with the ultimate presentation. Essentially they “crowdsourced” their presentation.

We want to replicate this style of preparation to help us prepare the best 90 second elevator pitches for our ideas and/or startups and have a competition at the end to test our results.

This will help entrepreneurs get feedback not only on the content of their pitch (regarding memorability, entertainment value, persuasiveness, etc.) but also help them perfect their physical delivery of it (body language, vocal variety, eye contact, etc).

If you want to:

  1. Practice public speaking under pressure

  2. Come up with a unique and creative pitch

  3. Or simply watch other people pitch to learn more about public speaking (it’s NOT required that everyone presents)

This event is for you!

How it works:

Anybody interested in practicing public speaking (even if you’re not an entrepreneur) can give a 90 second elevator pitch.

For this event, we will define elevator pitch as:

a succinct and persuasive sales pitch.

This means you have a lot of freedom with what you can include in your pitch.

We’ll vote for which pitches we want to crowdsource and break off into groups.

Each group will work on coming up with the most creative pitch with multiple practice rounds. There are no limits to how creative the group can get!

At the end, we’ll have a competition to see which speaker has the best crowdsourced pitch.

Crowdsourcing and pitching repeatedly in front of an audience at this event will help us achieve our big goal, as speakers, to build a muscle memory for public speaking. We encourage people to be bold and feel comfortable trying out new speaking techniques. Everyone is super supportive and we're dedicated to improving our skills together.

Join our community's mission to save the world from boring pitches and see you there!
