Subject: Edgar Allan Poe (born January 19, 1809, died October 7, 1849) was an American author, critic, essayist, poet, and suspense writer who is justifiably credited with having invented the style of modern detective stories. His was a life plagued by profound upheavals, in turn he knew both acclaim and dejection. Circumstances surrounding his death in Baltimore, Maryland, at the age of 40 remain shrouded in conjecture and mystery. In the 174 years since Poe's death he remains established as a major figure in world literature and shall, we anticipate, evermore!
Our one-hour presentation will offer dramatic recitations from the poetry and prose of Edgar A. Poe, plus original material composed for this occasion. Featured perfomers include organizer, television personality Carl L. Johnson (author, paranormal investigator known from numerous television appearances), Keith E. Johnson (Deacon, author, television talk show host, and lecturer), Christian Henry Tobler (author of scholarly treatises on German Medieval combat, lecturer), and Elise Giammarco Carlson (Curator, cemeteries conservator, land evidence and titles researcher, President of Johnston Historical Society).
