Contact Improv in the Park - Explorative Creative Partner Movement

Details
Contact improv is a creative movement style that invites you to look inward and sense into your body by applying various somatic concepts. (I.e. spiraling, painting, and pouring) You then take that awareness and connect with a partner in an open free form exploration of movement. Moving in novel ways with (or without) a partner this modality offers an opportunity to explore your inner psychological landscape by reflecting on your own levels of comfort and intimacy in unexpected circumstances.
This workshop will include two parts, a class and an open jam.
We'll start class with introductions and safety instructions then begin exploring various movement concepts for approx 45min. Afterwards we'll connect with a partner or various partners and explore bringing those concepts into connection.

About the teacher
JesSay! discovered contact improv while going to the Florida School of massage in Gainesville FL 11 years ago. It exposed him to new ways of approaching movement and bridged various modalities he practiced such as dance, yoga and bodywork. In the following years he joined in a local contact improv group and continued to learn more about it. He loved the way it gave him freedom to move in fluid and unconventional ways. He found it a perfect compliment to the highly structured Ashtanga yoga practice that he loved and brought new insights into his bodywork practice. After a long hiatus from the practice he is excited to share this modality with all of you and continue to expand his own understanding of movement and connection!
