Detachment: Finding Spiritual Freedom in a Material World
Details
As we begin a new year, we invite you to join a reflective conversation on detachment—the practice of letting go of what weighs us down so we can move forward with clarity and peace.
Detachment does not consist in setting fire to one's house, or becoming bankrupt or throwing one's fortune out of the window, or even giving away all of one's possessions. Detachment consists in refraining from letting our possessions possess us. A prosperous merchant who is not absorbed in his business knows severance. A banker whose occupation does not prevent him from serving humanity is severed. A poor man can be attached to a small thing. (Abdu'l-Bahá, Divine Philosophy, p. 135)
Inspired by the Bahá’í writings, this gathering will explore:
What detachment truly means (and what it doesn’t)
How attachment—to outcomes, opinions, material things, or past hurts—affects our peace
How detachment can open space for growth, freedom, and renewal
This is a safe, non-judgmental space for reflection and sharing. You’re welcome to participate in whatever way feels right for you—whether that’s speaking or simply listening.
