### What is Bioenergetics?

Bioenergetics is a method of analysis that examines how past experiences are stored in the body, influencing our emotional reactions and shaping what is known as our Character—the social, adapted self. This adapted self can block and repress our natural energy, limiting our creativity, sexuality, and spontaneous expression.

In the early 20th century, Reich identified five primary character types, which became the foundation of his therapeutic approach. By exploring these patterns, we can begin to release deeply held tensions and rediscover our natural vitality.

In this session, we will provide an overview of some of the character responses and how they relate to our capacity for pleasure. We will then invite you to explore a couple of the responses to experience how these holding patterns may be affecting your life and, in particular, your pleasure and desire. It is through the lens of these character responses that we can get a deeper appreciation of our energetic holding patterns and how they relate to our capacity for pleasure.
