Team Thursday: Kendall Yards, Pleasant Prairie, Mead Loop
Details
Start Time: Meet at 9:15, rollout at 9:30 AM
Meeting Location/Address: Olmsted Brothers Green 441 N Nettleton St, Spokane, WA 99201
Distance: 43 miles
Pace: 13 – 15 cruising speed on flat surface
Terrain: Paved roads except for a half-mile downhill gravel road section. One 1.2-mile steep climb, otherwise typical Spokane rolling terrain. +/- 1900 feet elevation gain
Route Description: This ride is similar to past Team Thursday rides, with some novel elements thrown in to keep things interesting. Routine rollout along Centennial Trail/Upriver Drive to the “hill of the day”, namely Fruit Hill at mile 10. If weather cooperates, we’ll enjoy post-harvest scenery as we roll through Pleasant Prairie. Things diverge from previous rides in that we ignore the Moffat descent (sorry folks) and continue northward for a bit before a new downhill (including 0.5-mile gravel) that will bring us to the Mt. Spokane Highway. We’ll follow that for a bit then skirt the border of Green Bluff before cruising through downtown Mead on our way to the Children of the Sun Trail. We’ll take the trail to our coffee stop at Derailer Coffee. We can probably stash our bikes at Hillyard Bike Shop (one of our longtime club sponsors). After the break we’ll return to the start using some of Spokane’s designated bike infrastructure.
