Irene will lead this hike on Dawson Butte Ranch Open Space, near Castle Rock. It is a pleasant 5-mile loop, with a 357 foot total elevation gain up to 6,880 feet, that is generally considered an easy hike. We can do that or turn back about the 2 mile mark if we want to stay in the trees. We can decide as a group at the 2mile mark whether to go back thru the trees ir continue the full 5 mile loop. The trail map may be found on AllTrails at https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/dawson-butte-ranch-open-space-loop The Loop passes through wooded areas before opening onto vast pastures with breathtaking sweeping views. Boots, sunglasses and hats will be needed, and you should plan on bringing a jacket, water and snacks in a day pack. Some members may wish to bring hiking poles for increased stability. We will meet at 8:30 AM at the trailhead parking lot, which may be found on Google Maps at 1753 Tomah Rd, Castle Rock, CO 80109 [MAP IT]. The are port-a-potties at the trailhead. The ground is almost entirely dirt and sand. Almost no rocks at all. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. We may want to meet afterwards for lunch or coffee as an option.
