Horsethief Falls Trail
Details
Paul will lead this hike up the Horsethief Falls Trail, a beautiful hike along a creek below the falls that features classic Rocky Mountain forests and views at higher elevations. It is 3.14 miles out-and-back with a 627-foot elevation gain (see https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/afternoon-hike-at-horsethief-falls-trail-6bcd5a4?unfurl=false&utm_campaign=memory&showMemory=true&sh=j20c5w). It is rated as moderate in difficulty, because while most of the hike is relatively easy, the trail begins at 9,680 feet and climbs up to 10,300 feet, and there are steep inclines in some sections. Boots, sunglasses, windbreakers and hats will be needed, and you should plan on bringing water and snacks in a day pack. It is advised to bring poles and/or microspikes if you have them, to avoid slippage on descent from the top. We will meet at 8:00 at the trailhead, which may be found on Google Maps as Horsethief Falls and Pancake Rocks trails, Divide, CO 80814, USA; parking is limited on weekends so you may want to arrive early. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed.
