Irene will lead this hike on the Ute Valley Open Space, a lollipop-shaped trail that begins at the Ute Valley trailhead. It is a pleasant 2.6-mile loop with a 217 foot total elevation gain up to 6,504 feet that should take less than 1½ hours. The trail map may be found on AllTrails at https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/afternoon-hike-at-ute-valley-park-trail-via-ute-valley-trail-road-a8dfb6a?unfurl=false&utm_campaign=memory&showMemory=true&sh=blllp5 Highlights include beautiful views and diverse terrain. It is rated as an easy hike, with one short moderate descent with loose rock, scree, embedded stone and dirt. Boots, sunglasses and hats will be needed, and you should plan on bringing a jacket, water and snacks in a day pack. Some members may wish to bring hiking poles for increased stability. There are port-a-potties available. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. Event attendees will meet at 2:00 PM at the trailhead parking lot, which may be found on Google Maps at Ute Valley Open Space, Colorado Springs, CO 80919. Option to meet for lunch at 1230 beforehand and then walk it off on the trail. Let me know in the chat those that are interested in joining for lunch too.
