We'll be photographing all that Old Car City has to offer. Yes, there are lots of "old cars" and rust, but there are hidden non-car gems on the property as well. Old Car City is open at 9:00 AM, and admission for photographers is $30/person. We'll meet in the parking lot at 8:45 AM for anyone that wants to meet other members, share ideas or tips.

While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to currently paid-up members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend. The Learnshops (fourth Tuesdays) and Coffee & Critique (second Saturdays) are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors. If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies, and equipment) by becoming a member!

Join us this month and explore the many photographic possibilities offered by table top photography! SPS member Roger Easley will present a brief overview of table top photography and then a team of SPS photographers will be your guides through a series of interesting table top subjects where you can try your hand at creating your own unique images. We will provide the props, backdrops and lights, so you just need to bring your camera and lenses (macro or anything that focuses relatively close). While not necessary, feel free to bring a tripod, a cable release and a flash. And if you’re just using your phone’s camera, that’s okay too. We want to emphasize that this is a hands-on Learnshop, so come ready to shoot and get your creative juices flowing!

This month's meeting will be IN-PERSON! Consistent with church policy and current CDC guidelines, masks will be optional. Of course, we encourage all attendees to take whatever precautions they deem appropriate to protect their health, including the personal decision to wear a mask.

Please join us for our very special April First Friday program with Andrew Feiler, a photographer, author and fifth generation Georgian. Having grown up Jewish in Savannah, he has been shaped by the rich complexities of the American South. Feiler has long been active in civic life, and his art is an extension of his civic values. His presentation will focus on his award-winning photography book, A Better Life for Their Children: Julius Rosenwald, Booker T. Washington, and the 4,978 Schools that Changed America.

Feiler was named “Book Photographer of the Year” by Prix de la Photographie Paris in 2022 for his book, which also won the Prix de la Photographie Paris 2022 gold medal for documentary book as well as the International Photography Awards 2022 first place for documentary book. It has been honored with a BarTur Photography Award, an Eric Hoffer Book Award, and a Book, Jacket, and Journal Award from the Association of University Presses. Photolucida named Feiler’s Rosenwald school images a 2020 Top 50 portfolio, and Photoville selected them for the 2020 edition of The Fence, an outdoor exhibition displayed internationally in eleven cities. The solo exhibition of this work is now on tour.

Feiler’s photographs have been instrumental in the campaign to create a new US national historical park and inspired the composition of a symphony. His work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian, L’Œil de la Photographie, Architect, The Forward, as well as on CBS This Morning and NPR. His prints have been displayed in galleries and museums including solo exhibitions at such venues as the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, and the International Civil Rights Center & Museum in Greensboro, NC. His photographs are in public and private collections, including that of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Please join us for our April Coffee & Critique, which will be a “digital edition” conducted on Zoom.

For newcomers — we meet every month to share images and provide constructive feedback to each other on how to improve our photography. We alternate each month between online digital and in-person print critiques, and the meetings are for beginners and seasoned photographers alike.

For digital months, it is very important that you RSVP on the MeetUp site because only folks who RSVP will be sent the link needed to join the meeting. The link will be sent out the day before the meeting.

For digital C&C’s, participants may submit up to two images each for feedback. (A “before” and “after” pair of images will only count as one submission for those who want to “show their work.”) Please size your images as you would for an SPS competition — see instructions here:

Even if you don’t submit images, though, we encourage you to join and participate in the MeetUp. Our experience is that the critiques are a valuable learning experience even for folks who don’t submit images.

Digital submissions must be emailed to [masked] no later than 9:00 pm on the Thursday before the meeting. Please put “C&C” or “critique” in the subject line. I will acknowledge receipt of submissions, so if you don’t hear back from me, it means I didn’t get your images.

Your images should be titled with your name and a number showing the sequence of the submissions — e.g., JaneDoe1, JaneDoe2 — with the number reflecting the order in which your images will be shown. We generally show the final image first, and then show the "before" version, so if you don't want it in that order, please let us know.

The Zoom link will be sent out the day before the event. If anyone has any questions, feel free to email me.
