It has been about two years sense my last visit, so it's time for a Saturday shoot at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham. Sloss is a 32 acre city park and National Historic Landmark that dates back to the mid 1800s. It was a major producer of pig iron with limited production into the early 1970s. You will find 20+ buildings, blast furnaces, and lots of monster machinery to photograph. We must pay a $10.00 donation and sign waiver forms upon arrival. Saturday hours are 10 am to 4 pm central time. You will find lots on information and maps at slossfurnaces.com. There are some eating places and interesting shops in a restored industrial area nearby. The drive is about 2.5 hours from mid-town Atlanta. If someone can recommend a good meeting place, we can gather to ride share and convoy. A Marta Parknride or shopping center usually works well.
