Using The Histogram - Fact and Fiction - with Nathan Dean
Details
Please join us for our January monthly meeting featuring accomplished photographer and educator Nathan Dean, and enter our digital image competition, “WATER" (more information below.)
In this talk Nathan Dean will tell you all you need to know about the histogram - and then some. He will introduce the histogram and demonstrate how to use it to avoid overexposing or underexposing your shot. Then he will describe the approach called "Expose to the Right" which aims to provide more detail in the image, and he'll give some clues about how and when to adopt it. There is more there - or maybe less - than meets the eye!
Nathan Dean, photographer and physicist, has been a fervent photographer for most of his life. At first, his photographs were mostly souvenirs. But as he worked to improve them, he became passionate about fine art photography, especially after he retired from a career as a university professor, science dean, and vice president. Since then, his works have been acquired by collectors, published in national media, and exhibited in numerous invited solo and small-group shows. They have been accepted in over seventy juried shows and have won multiple awards. He has served Atlanta Celebrates Photography as a member of its Board and its Executive Committee, and he has been co-director of the art program at the Buckhead Library.

SPS has three standing meetings each month for its members and guests. The First Friday meeting features a guest speaker and a members’ image competition. While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to currently paid-up members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend. The Learnshops (fourth Tuesdays) and Coffee & Critique (second Saturdays) are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors. If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies, and equipment) by becoming a member!
Signing up on the SPS Meetup page does not make you an SPS member. SPS members pay dues to engage in many activities that are unavailable to guests who only sign up on the SPS MeetUp.
