Beyond the Frame: Street Photography as a Gateway to Discovery
Details
Please join us for our First Friday meeting on November 6th. Our guest speaker will be writer and photographer Juliette Mansour. Juliette says: "Street photography asks us to train our eye, to read a scene, to be nimble with candid moments, and to work with the light landscape of public places. This talk traces how those developed instincts can lead us to discoveries and an evolution that brings a deeper understanding of ourselves as photographers. For some, it brings us closer and more embedded in a subject's world; for others, a shift away from strangers and toward the environment itself. We'll touch on a little street photography philosophy and leave plenty of room for discussion."
Juliette will also be judging our digital competition, themed A Different Point of View.
Presenter: Juliette Mansour is a writer and photographer working across connected projects. The Additional f-Stop is her weekly Substack newsletter, and Casa Dresden is her creative house where all the work comes together. She shoots digital and film, developing her own black-and-white film at home. Her work is shaped by photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Fred Herzog, and Vivian Maier.

SPS has three standing meetings each month for its members and guests. The First Friday meeting features a guest speaker and a members' image competition. While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to current dues-paying members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend. The Learnshops (Fourth Tuesdays) and Coffee & Critique (Second Saturdays) are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors. If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies and equipment) by becoming a member!
Signing up on the SPS Meetup page does not make you an SPS member. SPS members pay dues to engage in many activities that are unavailable to guests who only sign up on the SPS MeetUp.
