Skate over to the Agnes Scott College Woodruff Athletic Complex to photograph the rough and tumble action of women’s roller derby!
About The Roller Derby
Roller derby is a roller-skating contact sport played on an oval track by two teams of five skaters. It is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly in the United States. A 60-minute roller derby game, or bout, is a series of two-minute timed jams. (from Wikipedia).Venue
It is conveniently located in Decatur. Seating is general admission, meaning first-come-first-served to get the best seats. We have limited bleacher seating and the remaining is floor seating. We will be able to move around but you must stay off the track and out of any referee lanes, which are marked by caution tape. (They do have a photographer who is allowed inside the track, but they are pre-approved and know where to go to avoid the officials.)Bouts
There are two bouts scheduled:
5:00pm - Toxic Shocks vs Glamma Rays
7:30pm - Apocalypstix vs Black Water ReapersWe will meet at the entrance (inside) at 7pm and photograph Bout 2. If you would like photograph both bouts, feel free to do so, just meet us by the entrance at 7pm.

SPS has three standing meetings each month for its members and guests.
The First Friday Program and Competition features an outside speaker and a members' image competition. While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to currently paid-up members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend.
The Learnshops (fourth Tuesdays) and Coffee & Critique (second Saturdays) are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors.
If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies, and equipment) by becoming a member!

www.spsatlanta.org - Using Natural and Artificial Lighting for Beautiful Portraits with Paulo NaddeoUnitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta, Atlanta, GA
Please join us IN PERSON for this informative Learnshop where SPS member and past SPS Vice President Paulo Naddeo will share his techniques for beautiful portrait photography. Paulo has honed his skills in portrait work shooting performers, models, teens and others. He will share some of the important concepts of using natural and artificial lights combined with posing techniques to produce flattering results. He will demonstrate different setups and discuss gear including basic to advanced lighting equipment, as well as the different lighting arrangements to achieve the best results.
Paulo Naddeo is an amateur photographer who has explored many different genres of photography. He's had a passion for photography from an early age when he accompanied his father (who at one time had a small photography business) into shooting adventures including events, landscape and travel. As a software engineer, his purchase of a digital DSLR in 2000 (a Nikon D100) reignited his old passion for photography. In 2007 he moved from Brazil to the US and joined SPS in 2016. For the last several years, Paulo has ventured heavily into portrait photography using both natural and artificial light.
You can find Paulo's beautiful work at his website:

This month's Learnshop will be IN PERSON.
