6.30 - 7:00 pm - Mark Pratt : Securing and hardening your SQL Server installation: Layers, Donkey! Layers!
In this talk, I will take you the a wide range of tips and techniques to help make your SQL Servers a little more, or more hopefully, a lot more secure. and robust. I will cover installation, configuration, access, security and development criteria with some real world examples of how not to do it.
7:00 - 7:30 pm - Break
7:30 - 8:30 pm - Simon Whiteley : Modern Data Warehousing – The Azure Lambda Approach
This session will take you through the pattern known as the Lambda architecture, a reference pattern for building data analytics systems that can handle any combination of data velocity, variety and volume, before looking at how the newer Azure technologies fit this approach. What place does Azure SQL Data Warehouse take? Is it worth the various workarounds needed to fit it into an architecture? Is Data Lake really the answer to all your data storage needs? Can Data Factory actually be useful?
If you’re a single-box SQL guy, this session will prime you for the transition to BI in Azure. If you’re already fully clouded, you’ll get insight into the future direction and general industry movement to get your future plans ready.
Mark Pratt : Securing and hardening your SQL Server installation: Layers, Donkey! Layers!

Mark is a long standing member of the SQL community and when he is not immersed in SQL Server, you can find him getting into mischief with his young son (aka mini me) or throwing a large orange motorbike at the countryside down some of the many byways around where he lives.

Bio : Simon is the principal cloud architect for Adatis Consulting, a Microsoft Data & Analytics consultancy.
Emerging from a world of traditional BI structures, Simon is now obsessed with utilising cloud technologies to revolutionise these traditions – not everything is Kimball.
