Welcome to the Squirrel Squad Support Crew! Our mascot, the squirrel, symbolizes the resilience and adaptability of the neurodivergent community. Like squirrels, we embrace play, cherish our scurry and find strength in helping uplift one another up the tree and into the safety of our nest. Together we offer a supportive space to uplift and listen. We help each other to thrive in world not necessarily built for us.
This group started as a way to connect as we collectively crawled out of the pandemic. People were isolated, people were scared and people were lonely. I wanted to bring everyone together to share their troubles and for us to support each other simply by present. The group grew to a small scurry (group of squirrels *remember this for your next trivia game) and in that time we had live videos, "virtual cuddles" and generally supported one another.
We had a fine group of nuts in our midst but with the current tides in the US, I made the choice to move platforms and here we are.
As a long time user of meetup, I'm hoping to bring S3J out of the virtual world and into the real world. Also with the current climate, I would like to also focus on mental health advocacy by teaming up with NAMI (https://www.nami.org/) at some point in the future. In the mean time, check in with the group in terms of resources, virtual meetup and supports. I hope to eventually build a community where we can support one another through the times that we face.
