Let's learn more about the Five Conductors Who Changed the World of Music
Details
What do conductors actually do? Why have they become so important and renowned? What makes a conductor great?
These are some of the questions that are to be discussed by Richard Turp as part of his illustrated talk. With the aid of visual and audio materials and certain musical excerpts, he will attempt to explain the role of an orchestral conductor and illustrate what makes certain members of the breed so inspiring and fundamental to the success of many a musical performance.
Following the presentation, party sandwiches and dessert will be served, along with tea/coffee.
About the speaker: This is the sixth or seventh year in a row that Richard Turp has entertained our members. How can this unusual occurrence be explained? When it comes to the world of voice in opera, there is no one who can match his encyclopedic memory. His relaxed and friendly manner of presentation and his charming personality are indeed part of what endears him to his audience. Because of all the impressive qualities listed here, Richard Turp is periodically consulted by such prestigious groups as Radio Canada and Bravo TV. In addition, he is often asked to serve as a conference leader for l’Opéra de Montréal, l’Orchestre de chambre McGill and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Over the years, Mr. Turp has taught courses on French diction at McGill as well as sessions on the vocal repertoire at UQAM and the Université de Montréal. He has been invited to give master classes at Harvard University and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
