"The Thomas Sappington House Museum is a National Historic Landmark tucked away in a lovely 2.5 acre park adjacent to the Grant’s Trail in Crestwood. A stunning—and rarely-found— example of Federal architecture in Missouri, the historic structure and gardens appear as they did nearly 200 years ago. Built with slave labor, it is thought to be the oldest brick home in St. Louis County. Meticulously restored and renovated, the site allows visitors to look back in time to see how the Sappington family lived in the early 1800’s.

"The Sappington House is part of a larger complex that includes the nationally recognized Library of Americana and The Barn Restaurant. " from: http://sappingtonhouse.org/#page=portfolio&id=1

The house/library tour will be approximately 60-90 minutes. We will then have lunch at The Barn Restaurant (a part of the Sappington complex). I'll have a separate meetup to sign up for lunch. If this event fills with a large waitlist, there is the option to add a 10am tour also.

After lunch, we can do a self-tour of the Father Dickson Cemetery - next to the house. This was a cemetery for African-Americans founded in 1903. Notable St Louis residents interred at Father Dickson include: Moses Dickson, James Milton Turner, and Susan Paul Vashon.

Parking at elementary school across street!

You may want to check direction on a desktop first! South Sappington - south of big bend. Phone directions may send you to wrong place.

This tour is for members of the St. Louis Historic Sites meetup group and their guests.
