Panel Discussion: Breaking into the Data Layer
Data Engineer, Data Scientist, DBA, BI Engineer and Other Positions Discussed.
Speakers: Pamela Mooney, Sharon Reid, Murali Subramanian, Clayton Groom
Pamela Mooney is the Data Services Manager with NISA Investment Advisors, LLC. I started my career as a DBA over ten years ago as a midlife career switch. I have worked with every version of SQL Server since 2005, and I currently lead a team of DBAs as we evolve into a multi-platform operation. They teach me every day, and it is a privilege to work with them. The DBA profession finds itself at a pivotal point, with many choices and opportunities before us. I work to ensure that the voice of the DBA is heard, that our depth of knowledge is respected, and that our professionals have a seat at the table as the future unfolds.
Sharon Reid Before the commencement of her reign as the "Database Security Czarina of NISA," Sharon Reid was an adjunct English professor. After taking a LaunchCode class on SQL, she was asked to be a teaching assistant and then took over as lead mentor for the SQL cohort for LaunchCode Women+. Sharon enjoys sharing her passion for database security and is determined to make it fun, practical and implemented.
Murali Subramanian is a BI Engineer Lead at SSM Health. He works in the healthcare industry doing data and analytics for 13+ years now.
T-SQL, Python, PowerShell, SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Databricks, Power platform, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, SSIS are some of the tools and tech that he uses.
Clayton Groom is the owner and Principal Consultant at Clayton Groom, LLc., DBA "SQL Monger." I am a SQL server veteran with 30 years of experience working with SQL Server to build enterprise reporting solutions for a wide range of industries and clients. I love problem solving and building robust data driven solutions. I am currently "coasting into retirement" and looking forward to doing more of what I want to do and less of what has to be done. My experiences as a consultant have given me the opportunity to learn most aspects of the SQL Server product stack and to develop an understanding of Finance, Manufacturing and Advertising business processes. In my spare time I enjoy photography, collecting art, 3D printing, and helping my kids succeed in their endeavors.
