It's our first meetup of 2015 and we're kicking off the next year with two accomplished back-to-back speakers!
Laurie Williams (https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurieawilliams) will discuss pair programming:
Two people working at one computer collaborating on the same deliverable – sounds like a route to double expenses. Not so. Laurie has performed studies that show how Pair programming leads to higher quality code, better solutions, knowledge management, and risk reduction without any significant productivity hit.
About Laurie: For more than thirteen years, Laurie Williams has been working with development teams to both train and coach them to transition to the use of agile software development practices as well as to evaluate whether the transition was beneficial for the team in terms of quality and productivity improvements.
Laurie is also Co-author of Pair Programming Illuminated.
Joe Jackson (http://smashingboxes.com/bio/joe-jackson) will discuss the Rust language:
Rust is a system level language that is as fast as C and has the ease-of-use of high-level languages like Ruby and Javascript. We'll talk about what makes Rust exciting, and why learning it will open up possibilities and alleviate any fears you have of writing low-level code.
About Joe: Joe Jackson is a full-stack and mobile developer at Smashing Boxes. He loves programming languages, producing quality code and taking very, very long hikes.
