What we’re about
Hello! My name is Stanley, and I want to start a writing group here in Davis. I am 29, from New Orleans, and have been writing as a creative outlet since taking a creative writing seminar in college. I take writing seriously but have mostly been going it alone. When I looked up writing group meetups locally, the options were 1. university affiliated, 2. online only, or 3. huge in membership.
The idea is to meet in-person once or twice a month with a small group of writers who is interested in being each other’s readers. We’ll share a couple of pages of what we’re working on with each other ahead of our meeting and then critique together. My instinct is that these sorts of groups are most productive when membership is small but dedicated. In the unlikely (but welcome!) event that this is remotely popular, I’ll have to cap it at some number.
Some writers I admire include John McPhee, Barry Hannah, Alice Munro, and Ted Chiang. I like all kinds of stuff, but I gravitate towards writing that is vivid, surprising, and most of all generous. If you’re interested in joining me, send me a message. I’m looking forward to writing with you.
