Do you feel like being hit by an asteroid? How about tonight?

Details

Have you recently felt in such a state of despair that nothing more is left to hit you besides an asteroid sent from the skies, and totally wreck your home and belongings? And then later be notified that the insurance won’t cover? Think no more! Come to Gullo II tonight at 6:00 PM to celebrate our EVC 50th anniversary and learn all about NEOs (Near Earth Objects), those mysterious, wrecking balls crossing over Earth's paths in the skies. One of them wiped out dinosaurs from Earth 65 million years ago. Are there more out there just waiting for the right moment to change our geological history?

President Vinicio Lopez will welcome our speaker, Dr. Patrcik Miller, a specialist in asteroids and comets, who will deliver a brief introduction to the subject and embark on a journey to look for these NEOs as a citizen scientist. That is right! If you have a computer at home and some free time, don't think twice and consider participating in an international group of citizen scientists that uses remote observations to identify potentially harmful objects. He created this group and has been gathering more volunteers over the years.

This talk continues the celebration of our 50th Anniversary and is sponsored by the American Astronomical Society, the NASA Community College Network, in partnership with NASA. Gullo II is a multi-purpose building located in the heart of Evergreen Valley College, situated across from the cafeteria, and can accommodate up to 100 visitors. Plan to arrive at 5:45 PM to give you enough walking time and find a spot to sit.

Hope to see you there.
