Founded in 1989 by Michael J. Saylor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_J._Saylor) and Sanju K. Bansal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanju_Bansal), MicroStrategy develops and sells business intelligence, mobile software, and cloud-based services for some of the top Fortune 500 companies and technology companies in the world including Facebook, eBay, and Yahoo. MicroStrategy was one of the first companies to pioneer data-driven enterprises with Business Intelligence and now is enhancing Big Data capabilities with its army of data scientists. It is a public traded company on the NASDAQ: MSTR with almost $600 million in revenues with 3,200 employees worldwide. Mr. Bansal received an S.B. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University. Bob Dorf is likely the second most knowledgeable Customer Development expert on the planet, second only to his business partner, co-author and friend of 20 years, Steve Blank, who developed the methodology after retiring from his eighth startup, E.piphany, when it achieved a market cap of $8-billion. Dorf helped Steve Blank deploy and test the Customer Development process when E.piphany opened its doors with five employees in 1996. Dorf later critiqued the earliest versions of Steve’s Four Steps to the Epiphany mercilessly along the way, and they’ve been friends and colleagues ever since. Dorf lives in Stamford with his wife Fran, a therapist and thrice-published novelist. Startup Grind Silicon Valley: Bill Maris, Managing Partner at Google Ventures on July 31th, 2013.
Bill is the managing partner of Google Ventures, where he and his team are seeking out new technologies, startups, and disruptive ideas. He brings with him a combination of technical expertise and hands on startup experience, including founding Web hosting pioneer Burlee.com (now part of Web.com), where he built much of the key computing, network, and technological infrastructure. Prior to that, Bill was a biotechnology and healthcare portfolio manager for Stockholm, Sweden-based Investor AB. Bill’s background also includes research at the Duke University Medical Center, Department of Neurobiology with a focus on molecular and behavioral neuroscience. Rubin is the founder of All Games Productions, All Games Network, and co-founder of the G4 television network, in addition to being a talk show host and television producer. AllGames launched in 1996, and in 2000 Rubin was hired as a consultant for Comcast to develop a 24-7 cable TV channel about video games. Khosla co-founded Sun Microsystems (SUN is the acronym for the Stanford University Network), along with Stanford classmates Scott McNealy, Andy Bechtolsheim, and UC Berkeley computer science graduate student Bill Joy. Khosla served as the first chairman and CEO of Sun Microsystems from 1982 to 1984, when he left the company to become a venture capitalist.
