Chip Paucek, 2U, HookedOnPhonics

Chip Paucek is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of 2U, Inc. (NASDAQ: TWOU), formerly known as 2tor. 2U is a leading provider of cloud-based software-as-a-service solutions that enable leading nonprofit colleges and universities to deliver high-quality degree programs online. 2U has approximately $90 million in revenues and one of a handful of DC companies that went IPO this year.

After graduating from The George Washington University with a bachelor's degree in political communication, Paucek founded Cerebellum Corporation, the company behind the award-winning educational Standard Deviants television program. Paucek was also CEO of Hooked on Phonics and expanded access to the program by bringing it from infomercial sales to distribution across major U.S. retailers.

In 2012, Paucek was recognized by Ernst & Young as their Entrepreneur of the Year. The following year, Goldman Sachs named him one of the world's 100 "Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs." Paucek was most recently honored as one of the five Highest Ranked CEOs in the U.S. among small- to medium-sized companies in 2014 by Glassdoor, an online career and workplace community. This distinction came quickly on the heels of 2U’s recognition among the top-20 places to work in 2014, also by Glassdoor. Chip is a columnist for Inc.com and serves on the board of the Network for Social Work Management.

Paucek earned a B.A. in political communication from The George Washington University and is currently enrolled in MBA@UNC, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School’s online MBA program and one of 2U’s partner programs. Outside of work, he is an avid boater and is most likely to be found on the Chesapeake Bay with his wife, Gabrielle, and two sons.

NOTE: This interview will start promptly at 6:30pm since Chip needs to catch a flight afterwards!
