Nick Lavezzo is cofounder and COO of FoundationDB (http://www.crunchbase.com/organization/foundationdb), which is an industrial strength NoSQL database with a data model similar to Google’s Spanner and F1 projects (which run AdWords).
FoundationDB is the only DC startup that is angel funded by the famous Ron Conway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Conway)’s SV Angel fund.
FoundationDB also raised $5.5MM seed from Michael Walrath (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Walrath) (founder of Right Media), and Howard Lerman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Lerman) (CEO of Yext), and their most recent $17MM Series A (http://techcrunch.com/2013/11/12/foundationdb-raises-17m-for-database-similar-to-next-generation-google-technology-used-to-run-adwords/)from west-coast firm Sutter Hill Ventures with additional investment from CrunchFund (which is owned by TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Arrington)).
Prior to FoundationDB, Nick and his cofounders built another successful startup in the DC area, Visual Sciences, which after a series of acquisitions was ultimately sold to Omniture for $394MM (http://www.webconnoisseur.com/blog/analytics/omniture-buying-visual-sciences-for-394-million/) then to Adobe (where they are still selling their product today)
