Since Russian missiles destroyed the water supply system in 2022, access to clean water has been limited for the remaining citizens of Mykolaiv, Ukraine. The destruction not only affects their daily lives, forcing them to search for sufficiently clean water, but also brings hygiene issues and health risks and severely damages the city's industry.

It is impossible to repair or rebuild the main water intake at the Dnipro River: As soon as the city's equipment and machines approach the frontline, they are targeted by the Russian military.

Overall, 400+ million EUR are needed to build a new water intake and water main for the city of 500,000 inhabitants. Neither the state of Ukraine, the city of Mykolaiv, nor International Financial Institutions are able to provide the large funding needed to secure a reliable potable water supply.

So we need new ways to finance the efforts to build a new water supply system for Mykolaiv’s people!

What is a Hackathon?

A Hackathon is a collaborative event, where teams with hackers from different professional backgrounds and expertises work together to solve specific challenges in a short time. You can use your skills to come up with new and creative solutions. And you can network, meet experts, learn new things, and make a real impact. As a participant you can contribute by generating new ideas to improve the water supply system, building prototypes to create working models or examples of these ideas, and pitching your solution to judges for feedback and potential support.

Challenges
You can pick one of the following challenges to focus on with your team:

• 💦Gamification to identify new ways to finance critical infrastructure recovery and development
• 💦NFT to fundraise for critical water infrastructure in Mykolaiv and Ukraine
• 💦BYO - Bring your Own Idea

The solutions being developed could also be utilized to support other areas of the world where people suffer from critical water supply issues.

Winners of the three projects with the highest number of tokens based on the Leadership board will be awarded with the following prizes with a total value of 2,000 Euro:
