Open Coaching with Steve Bowman at DLA Piper. Master the investor presentation.
(TUESDAY! (Due to the holiday, not the usual Wednesday.) ) OPEN COACHING is a format I’ve perfected over the years to help entrepreneurs fix their investor presentations. It’s a cross between private coaching and a group workshop. I've been coaching entrepreneurs for more than twenty years and teaching for more than forty. HOW IT WORKS Each session is three hours, in which I coach three companies, giving each an hour of my undivided attention. Everybody stays the whole three hours and watches and learns. Plus, other entrepreneurs are encouraged to observe and learn. Venture companies from any industry (including life sciences) are welcome. If you’re being coached, you get not only direct, personalized coaching, but the learning is compounded as you watch me apply the same principles to other presenters and presentations. Most of the session is a dialogue between you and me, but there’s time for comments from the observers. (Sometimes observers include serial entrepreneurs, investors, and experts with deep experience in your field.) These sessions are a real eye-opener for first-timers. Yet veteran entrepreneurs benefit just as much, if not more, gaining new insights and advanced techniques. FREE It’s FREE because it’s sponsored by the Philly office of the global law firm DLA Piper, “the best law firm you never heard of.” Really. They’re one of the largest law firms in the world and a national leader in emerging growth deals. They’re just not well known in Philadelphia (yet). Open Coaching happens in DLA’s offices on the 49th floor at One Liberty Place in Center City Philadelphia. The view alone is worth it! On a clear day you can see Wilmington. And we always have fresh coffee, juice, fruit, bagels, and muffins. IF YOU WANT TO BE COACHED I need to approve you first. Two reasons: 1) to reserve a time slot for you. 2) to make sure you’re at the right stage. If you’re too early, it doesn’t work. Pre-revenue is ok. If in doubt, just send me your stuff. I’ll confirm with a time slot. You'lll get one hour of coaching, as if we were in a private session. To apply to be coached, email me: [masked]. Tell me what date or dates you’re available. Attach something (slides, execsum, links, etc.) to show me where you are now with your company. If you have your info on, tell me and I can see it there. Let me know if you’re preparing for a venture fair or pitch competition (like MADV or PACT or Angel Venture Fair) and I’ll give you priority. I do require that all companies being coached commit to attending the whole three hours. Ideally, I'm coaching the CEO because investors expect the CEO to give the pitch. If you’re not the CEO but you want to be coached, explain when you email me. I encourage you to bring anybody on your team who is directly involved in creating your pitch. IF YOU WANT ONLY TO ATTEND AND OBSERVE Just register and come. All entrepreneurs are welcome, no matter what stage your company. Also all venture investors, mentors, and advisors to start-up companies are welcome. (If you’re service provider, ask me first.) ANYTHING GOES I never know exactly who's going to show up or what they'll bring to the table. Despite the set structure, there's an "anything goes" spirit to Open Coaching. Occasionally we have extra time for some elevator pitch coaching, so even observers should be psychologically prepared to be put on the spot. The discussions can get pretty intense. Everybody comes away with new ideas, new friends and connections--and lots of notes. We have fun. WHO IS STEVE BOWMAN? They call me "Pitch Doctor." My company is BizClarity. I'm a veteran teacher, presentation coach, and expert in the art of the venture investment pitch. I have a Harvard degree, taught MBAs at Wharton and Temple, and I've directed the coaching programs for dozens of venture fairs. I've coached thousands of companies over the last 20 years. What we're about

This is specialized Meetup for entrepreneurs who are in the process of raising capital from angel investors and venture capitalists. The primary focus is on education, training, and coaching for start-ups. It’s open to all venture entrepreneurs and high-tech start-ups, venture investors, coaches, teachers and advisors or mentors of entrepreneurs. (It’s NOT appropriate for real estate investors.)

The initial purpose of this Meetup is to help entrepreneurs master the investor presentation, and features regular coaching sessions and workshops given by Steve Bowman, the “Pitch Doctor.” As membership grows, we’ll add programs led by other subject-matter experts to guide entrepreneurs through the entire fund-raising process.

All sessions with Steve Bowman are FREE, sponsored by the Philadelphia office of the global law firm DLA Piper.

Goals of Entrepreneurs Seeking Venture Investors are:

To take the mystery out of raising capital from angels and VCs.
To help startups avoid the mistakes that prevent them from getting funding.
To support the local venture and innovation community.
To see to it that more Philadelphia-area start-ups secure the investment they need to grow their companies.
