June Fly Tying Night - Murray's Hellgrammite

Join us as we gather to tie flies, share tips, and connect with fellow fly fishing enthusiasts!

This event is free, but space at the tying table is limited - please RSVP at info@ncriversandridges.com to save your seat! Everyone is welcome to attend, socialize and watch - even if you are not tying.

For beginners interested in diving into some tying fundamentals, stop by Carolina Mountain Sports before the event. Shop owner Richard Griggs is happy to help share the basics of tying to get you started.

For this month's meetup, we'll be tying a Murray's Hellgrammite. This is a great pattern for smallmouth bass, whether you are crawling the fly along the bottom, drifting or providing a swinging presentation.

Bring your vise, tools, and materials. If you don’t have everything you need, no worries—materials will be available for purchase on-site at Carolina Mountain Sports. Drinks available for purchase at Wine Maestro next door to bring over to the meetup!

Materials:
For the Murray's Hellgrammite, you will need...
- Hook: 3X long medium heavy, sizes 4-12
- Thread: Black 3/0 prewaxed monocord
- Body: Black chenille, medium or large per hook size
- Hackle: Soft domestic rooster black saddle hackle
- Pincers: Medium black rubber
- Weight: Size small lead free barbell eyes or lead free wire to match
- Tail: ostrich herl/plum
