November Fly Tying Night

Join us as we gather to tie flies, share tips, and connect with fellow fly fishing enthusiasts!

***Note, this event will take place on 11/20 instead of our usual 4th Thursday cadence to account for the Thanksgiving holiday.

This event is free, but space at the tying table is limited - please RSVP at info@ncriversandridges.com to save your seat! Everyone is welcome to attend, socialize and watch - even if you are not tying.

For beginners interested in tying fundamentals, stop by Carolina Mountain Sports before the event. Shop owner Richard Griggs is happy to help share the basics of tying to get you started.

This month we're tying the Pheasant Tail & Partridge Fly. A versatile fly that will imitate mayflies and caddis, this pattern is highly effective. Especially when fished on a swing and given a slight twitch for action, this will imitate an emerging fly, providing a convincing presentation for finicky trout.

Bring your vise, tools, and materials. If you don’t have everything you need, no worries, materials will be available for purchase on-site at Carolina Mountain Sports and we'll have some on hand as well. Drinks available for purchase at Wine Maestro next door to bring over to the meetup!

When: November 20, 2025 6:30PM ***Note this is the third Thursday, a week sooner than normal, to account for the holiday.

What to Bring: Your vise, tools, and materials (or purchase on-site). See below for materials list.
Extras: Drinks available next door at Wine Maestro

Materials...
- Hook: Dai-Riki #075 or Tiemco 3769 (1X short, 2X heavy) or similar
- Tail + Abdomen: Pheasant Tail Fibers
- Thorax: Black Peacock Ice Dub or peacock herl
- Thread: Dark brown
- Rib: Copper wire
- Hackle: Hungarian partridge, or suitable substitute such as hen or CDC

As always, substitute materials/sizes/colors however you like, or with whatever you have on hand that still does the trick.
