A quiet weekday window to wander the gallery, notice what you feel, and fall into unexpected conversations. No art knowledge or buying pressure — just time, beauty, and a small group of humans.
Most art events are loud, rushed, and a little performative. This one isn't. Stellar Afternoon is something more original than another coffee shop, but gentler than a crowded opening.
When & Where
- Time: Drop in any time between 1:00–3:00 pm. Arriving before 2:15 pm gives you the most time to linger.
- Location: Stellar Art Gallery, 24409 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance.
- Parking: Public lot in the rear; enter through the front door.
- Accessibility: Minimal seating, wheelchair-accessible entrance via the back of the building, single-stall restroom on site.
- Group size: Capped at about 15 guests across the window. Please update your RSVP if your plans change so someone else can use the spot.
What will happen
The art is our backdrop. The real focus is your experience and the conversations that might happen around it.
- Arrive any time in the window and settle into the space.
- Wander, sit, and look at the work at your own pace.
- If you'd like, we can look at a piece together — no jargon, just "What do you notice?" and "What does this feel like to you?"
Some visits will be quiet. Some will turn into unexpectedly rich conversations. Both are welcome.
Who this is for
- Retired or flexible-schedule folks who want something meaningful to do during the day.
- People who enjoy beauty, calm, and real conversation more than crowds or small talk.
- Anyone who is "art-curious" but doesn't want to feel they have to know anything to belong here.
Come alone or with a friend. Curiosity is enough.
What this isn't
This isn't a tour, a class, or a sales pitch — just an open afternoon. If something speaks to you, we can talk about it quietly. If not, that's the whole point.
Your host & featured artists
I'm Jeremy Lasman, curator and director of Stellar Art Gallery. The gallery features my father, Paul Lasman — a semi-retired SpaceX mechanical designer turned blown-glass artist whose luminous, hand-crafted pieces play with light, color, and reflection to invite quiet attention.
This month you'll also see work by:
- Roy Kunisaki — hand-thrown ceramics of sea life and stone-like vessels that bridge a Japanese sensibility with a California coastline.
- Gil Mares — fine-art photographs that turn the worn hulls of LA Harbor freighters into saturated, painterly fields of color.
I'll be in the room throughout the afternoon — available if you want to explore a piece together, or simply to say hello and let you wander.
