This fall, we will hold a seven-week program for cultivating peaceful mind states, reducing negative mind states, and moving our lives in a happy, peaceful, and positive direction. The program will be based on the Holistic Clearing Meditation of my teacher, Namgyal Rinpoche, an extraordinary teacher who was recognized as a master in multiple traditions.

I have had the great good fortune of studying deeply with Masters in the Zen, Tantric, and Insight Meditation traditions over the course of many decades. In this period of rapid and deep change in society, I wanted to offer something that can help people navigate the disorienting pace of change, live meaningful lives, and make their best contributions to the world.
This deep mind-training is aimed at helping us move steadily beyond habitual patterns of thought and reactive emotion, toward greater freedom and clarity. It can help us come to know the true nature of the self and become empowered to engage positively with our unique individual gifts. The practices help the body and mind develop calmer, healthier patterns, opening the possibility of deep changes you may not have imagined.

You will learn keys to:

  • managing disturbing emotions, both in meditation and in your everyday life;
  • stabilizing the mind in a good state;
  • creating a positive and stable foundation for sorting through the struggles and challenges of life in a balanced way; and
  • exploring and unfolding as-yet-unexpressed capacities.

If you have a sincere desire to make positive changes in your life, uncover the fundamentally calm and stable foundation of your mind, engage with life in a spirit of exploration, and cultivate meditative tools for the continuing journey toward a deeper, more fulfilling life, please contact me about registering for this course.
Contents of the Course

  1. The Buddha’s Ānāpānasati Meditation: Learning this meditation as a foundation for our explorations. The teaching was given following the annual three-month retreat to a gathering that included many of the Buddha’s most advanced students. The Buddha praised the gathering deeply, and Ānāpānasati is considered a core meditation in the tradition.
  2. Meditation on Positive Qualities: Unfolding positive qualities to strengthen our whole being and create stability.
  3. Meditation on Negative Qualities: Developing inner skills for transmuting negative qualities that are blocking freedom and joy.
  4. Meditation on Lacks: Uncovering and nurturing uncultivated or underdeveloped abilities within us that can be unfolded for a more richly satisfying life.
  5. Balancing Meditation: This meditation goes beyond the self to a place where personal elements can be put into proper perspective, opening expansive and creative potential.
  6. Meditation on Communication: Each person will have the opportunity to share the contents of their meditation with others and to cultivate meditative awareness while speaking and listening, as well as through sharing silence. This practice has the immense potential to positively impact relationships with others and deepen our capacity for inner silence and peace.

In this way, we will gradually allow the hindrances to a calm, clear, and happy mind to fall away, while renewing positive mind states and cultivating our gifts for positive engagement with life and developing deeper levels of insight, calm, joy, appreciation, empathy, and love.
Attendance is limited to no more than 12 people. Participants will be expected to commit to regular meditation practice during the course and to connect at least once a week with a practice partner. Each participant will also be able to have two 15-minute private consultations with the facilitator during the course and will be encouraged to track their progress through journaling.
The program will be held on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., beginning September 28, 2026, and continuing through November 9, 2026. It is suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators.
Participants may join either in person in Englewood, New Jersey, or online.
