Three-Day Adventure: Hiking the Deep Forests of KolmĂ„rden đżđïž

Details
Let's venture into KolmÄrden, a wild, deep forest full of nature and history. This untamed woodland once formed a natural border between the ancient tribes of Götar and Svear.
Walk through quiet woods, past the dramatic cliffs of BrĂ„viken, with stunning, wide sea views. Weâll cross lakes, marshes, and rocky hills on this multi day adventure, following Sörmlandsleden stretches 32:2, 33, 34, 35, and 36.
The total hiking distance is 44 km over three days, and it can be challenging at times.
â ïžâ ïžâ ïž We will check the weather a week in advance. If the weather is decent, we will go. If it's three days of rain, we might give a raincheck
Itinerary
Day 1 - Thursday 29th May (18km)
We begin at KolmÄrden Zoo and hike into the forest landscape of FjÀllmossen Nature Reserve. After 9 km, we reach BrÄvikenbranten, where we enjoy beautiful sea views along BrÄviken before heading back into the forest. We then ascend towards the wetlands in the heart of FjÀllmossen, where we aim to set up camp by a small lake.
Day 2 - Friday 30th May (15km)
On day two, we'll leave FjÀllmossen and head to the beautiful NÀvsjömossen Nature Reserve. Surrounded by forests and wetlands, we'll camp by the calm waters of Svartsjön or NÀvsjön.
Day 3 - Saturday 31st May (11km)
The last day is a bit shorter. We hike through the beautiful rocky forest towards NĂ€vekvarn. At NĂ€vekvarnâs cliff, we'll once again enjoy stunning views of the sea along BrĂ„viken. Then, we head into the village of NĂ€vekvarn, where weâll return home.
Pack Weight
A light backpack makes hiking easier, more fun, and safer. A heavy pack can slow you down and drain your energy. To keep it light, bring only what you need and choose light gear. Saving weight on the heaviest items, sleeping bag, backpack, and tent, makes the biggest impact. Leave all the ânice-to-havesâ at home. Keep the weight under 15 kg, aiming ideally for around 10-12 kg.
Water
There are water wells at these distances along the hike: 4 km, 18 km, 20 km, 30 km, and 38 km. The quality of the wells may vary. We'll also camp near lakes, where the water will likely be safe for cooking. Since water is heavy and there are plenty of water sources, we can carry less, making our packs lighter and easier to carry.
Food
We suggest opting for foods with lower water content to manage weight more effectively. For lunch, consider convenient, easily prepared freeze-dried options. For dinner, when there's more time available for cooking, you can explore a wider range of meal choices. Why not prepare something extra special for the first dinner?
Gear
Night temperatures can still be a bit chilly, so it's a good idea to have a warm sleeping mattress as well as a warm sleeping bag. If you don't have the right gear, do not despair! There are multiple places that you can rent good quality gear from. Hygglo (private rental) may have some options. Other good options include Naturkompaniet's rental and Outdoor Supply, where you can even rent a complete package with lightweight tent, sleeping mattress, bag and kitchen.
