What we’re about

STIMPATHY – the neuroqueer choir is not about singing, but stimming together. It is a group for neuroqueer/neurodivergent adults created to liberate our stims and celebrate them together to empower ourselves. The outcome of those meetings will be choir performance in the mid of November 2025

We offer choir workshops every WEDNESDAY from 7pm to 9pm (starting on 16th of April) in Raum für Beteiligung Tempelhof-Schöneberg (Dominicusstraße 11, 10823 Berlin). The workshops are free of charge.

The choir is part of artistic project developed by Monika Popiel and Paweł Świerczek within Fresh A.I.R. Residency at Stiftung Berliner Leben.

WHAT TO EXPECT
STIMPATHY choir will operate in weekly workshops, where we will work with sound, words, movement, as well as with sensory objects that support conscious stimming. In the end we want to create stimming choir show which will be presented to the public in mid November 2025.

Don't worry if it sounds like too much. You can just enjoy the workshops and not participate in the show. You can come just once and never show up again. You can come as many times as you want and just be weird, quirky and awkward among other alike people.

The workshop will be held in English. We hope that peer translation to German will be provided if needed. You will be invited to move, talk, make sounds, write and draw – nothing of this is compulsory. During the workshop we may generate considerable level of noise. We will provide earplugs and noice cancelling headphones. There will also be a quiet room.

ACCESSIBILITY
The room is on the ground floor. At the main entrance there is one step. There is also wheelchair accessible entrance from the back of the building. Unfortunately there are no wheelchair accessible toilets inside. If you have any specific access needs, contact us at [stimpathyberlin@gmail.com](mailto:stimpathyberlin@gmail.com) – we will do our best to meet them.

FAQ
What is stimming?
Stimming (stimulatory behavior) generally speaking is repetitive movements and sounds that we, as neurodivergent people, generate to regulate our emotions and sensory processes. Stimming is often performed with objects you can hold in your hands. It is a functional neurobiological mechanism that allows us to function healthily. But we believe stimming is much more: a language, self expression, dance, way of thinking, community practice!

What is neuroqueer? Am I neuroqueer?
Neuroqueer is firstly a practice of subverting neurocognitive norms. Neuroqueer for us is also a term to describe broad experiences on the intersection of neurodivergence and queerness. It frees us from using medical and therapy language. We won't ask you about your gender identity, sexual preferences or official diagnosis for autism, ADHD or any other „condition”. If you’re curious or just vibe with the words “neuroqueer”, “neurodivergence” or “stimming” – you are welcome!

I cannot join/ I missed the first workshop on the 16th of April. Can I still join later?
Yes. You can join any time you want until the end of June. Then we plan to close the group to focus on creating the final choir show.

Do I have to participate every week and perform at the end?
No. You are most welcomed to be there any time you want, but there are no obligations. You can engage in the final performance in many different ways or not engage at all. We will discuss this all at the end of June. At the beginning July we plan to close the group and start preparing for the final show together with those who want to engage in it.
