What we’re about

Welcome to the Stirling Social Activities Group!

Key Group Rules:

  • Over 18 year-olds only
  • Register any guests (+1)
  • Uphold the acceptable behaviours (see below)
  • Change your status to "Not going" if you can't make an event
  • Have fun! 😀

Please take time to read all of the following info, to help you understand what the group is about and expectations of members.

By being a member of this group you agree to always act with acceptable behaviour and abide by the group's rules, expectations and procedures.

[1] Group Aim 🎯

The aim of the group is to allow adults based in and around the Stirling area to meet new folk and take part in a wide range of enjoyable in-person sociable activities. Whether you're new to Stirling or have been here for years, or if you're outgoing or shy, adventurous or relaxed, you'll always get a warm welcome at our events. 😊

Feel a little nervous about joining in, or want to say ‘hello’ before your first event? Drop the Organisers or event Host(s) a message and we'll make sure you're ready.

[2] Disclaimers, Expectations and Rules 📃

We are proud to have earned 180+ 5-star reviews by consistently organising events in a safe and structured manner.

Membership of the group, and attendance at events for members and guests, is strictly for over 18s. Nobody under the age of 18 is permitted to attend any group event in any capacity.

Acceptable behaviour is expected from group members and their guests at all times by:
(a) Playing your part in maintaining safe, inclusive and friendly spaces for adults to connect
(b) Being respectful of others at all times
(c) Recognising that this is not a dating group
(d) Avoiding discussions/debates on politics and other potentially divisive topics

Any unkind, discriminatory, offensive or harassing behaviour at any time and in any form/medium will not be tolerated and likely see you be removed from the event, or wider group. Concerns should be raised as soon as possible with the event host or with any of the Group Organisers.

It should be noted that we cannot intervene in interpersonal disagreements or conflicts between members, outside a direct breach of the group rules at an event.

[3] Attendance At Events 🗓

Organisers work hard in their spare time to plan and run events.

Wherever possible we try to maximise the number of people who can attend events, but, sometimes there is a need to restrict numbers.

Every person attending needs to be accounted for. Members do this by clicking “Attend” on the event listing, and may add guests (if event allows guests) by selecting “+1”. All members and guests count as attendees on the “Going” list. Please do not bring along extra people who are not on the “Going” list.

If a member is on the “Waitlist” for an event they should only attend if they are moved to the “Going” list.

Members are responsible for keeping up-to-date with event arrangements, including checking the event page for any updates.

Registered assistance animals are always welcome at our events to support members and/or their guests. Pet animals may only attend events with the prior permission of event organiser(s) and agreement of all other attendees.

If there is any cost associated with an event (e.g. transport, entrance fee, food, drink, equipment hire) then the event will be clear on if this is to be paid directly to the venue or to be coordinated via the Organiser(s).

At events involving food and drink it will be expected that each person will pay their own bill.

IOUs will not be offered nor accepted, so please ensure you have the means to cover any cost(s)

[4] Non-Attendance At Events 🗓❌

If you sign up to take part in an event it is expected that you will attend. This is a popular group (250+members), and events often have a waiting list. Please update your confirmation status to “Not Going” as soon as you know that you are no longer able to attend an event, ideally a minimum of 24 hours before the start of an event to allow other members to take part. This also means that organisers and other attendees do not wait unnecessarily for someone not actually attending.

Repeat 'no-shows' or frequent late-notice cancellations will be noted and may result in a temporary pause in signing up for further events or even removal from the group

If it is necessary for members to pay the event organiser in advance and/or book directly with the venue no refunds will be given under any circumstances for non-attendance.

[5] WhatsApp Community 📱

Stirling Social Activities Group organises events for the enjoyment of all its members. All key group information is posted in the Meetup App/Website along with mass-participation events, for example games, meals, excursions and walks. To support the organising of events that are harder to schedule in this way, there is an official WhatsApp Community which is part of Stirling Social Activities Meetup Group. The WhatsApp Community is only open to Stirling Social Activities Meetup Group members to join and is used for members to organise additional smaller-scale events (e.g. cinema trips).

Participation in the WhatsApp Community is wholly voluntary. We recognise that not all members will be comfortable being on WhatsApp, and any activities arranged in this way compliment as opposed to replace the activities organised on the Meetup app/website. The Acceptable Behaviours [2] fully apply to the WhatsApp Community.

You can request to join the WhatsApp Community by sending a direct message on the MeetUp app to the WhatsApp Coordinator (Sebastian). Sebastian will then send you a link to join the WhatsApp Community once he's confirmed you're a Group member. From there you will be able to add yourself to various different Channels (activity topics).

[6] Non-Organisers Hosting Events on the App 🤝

We have had more members hosting Meetup App/Website events recently, and would like to thank those who have given their time to do so! We have created the following guidelines to help these events run smoothly:

  • When a member is hosting for the first time, an Organiser must also be present as a co-host;
  • Hosts must remain present for the full duration of the event;
  • Hosts should remain sober and able to conduct themselves in line with our rules and expected behaviours throughout the event;
  • Hosts are required to check attendance, greet members and personally welcome any new members attending for the first time.

[7] Membership Fees 💷

Meetup HQ has charged the group organisers £200 this year to keep the group going. Although membership of the group is free, group organisers need to be able to cover this cost without being personally out of pocket. A suggested voluntary donation of £5 per member per year is much appreciated.

Donations\member fees can be made via the following link:

https://gofund.me/999735f3

Any excess member donations collected above the Meetup HQ hosting fee will be put back into the group through discounted events. Organisers do not make any profit from the group.
