Currently our grief support sessions are cancelled in the interests of public health during this COVID-19 crisis.
Our bereavement support group, facilitated by a professional grief counsellor, offers an atmosphere where people can normalize reactions which might feel abnormal after suffering a loss. This is a safe place where those dealing with grief are understood without judgement. We will walk with you through the wilderness of your grief in an understanding and compassionate manner. Our group sessions are non-denominational, private and confidential in a small, closed group, over ten to twelve consecutive weekly sessions. Facilitator Maggie Shields, trained at the Dr. Worfelt's Centre for Loss & Life Transition, uses Dr. Worfelt's Understanding Grief program as a base for these sessions. A small, one-time fee for materials will be applicable.
The 10 - 12 week sessions are scheduled quarterly, usually starting in the months of January, April, July and September. Our next sessions will start in late February 2020 and then May 2020.
Grief support group meetings, which are oriented for loss of an adult, are held either:
(1) Tuesday evenings at Horner Avenue Seniors Centre, 320 Horner Avenue, Etobicoke, ON from 6:15 to 8:00 pm. (next session starts late February 2020) or,
(2) Thursday evenings at St. John's Dixie Anglican Church Meeting Room, 719 Dundas Avenue West, Mississauga, ON from 6:15 to 8:00 pm. (next session starts late February 2020).
Grief support group meetings which are oriented for the sudden loss of an adult from unexpected causes (including drug overdose, motor vehicle accident, surgical complications, misadventure, suicide, drowning or homicide) may be scheduled as numbers warrant.
