WHO: Members and allies of 350 STL, the St. Louis, Missouri chapter of the international climate justice organization 350.org, in conjunction with other youth and adults concerned about the climate crisis.

WHAT: A local rally in support of the Nationwide Mobilizations on Earth Day 2022 Targeting the Federal Reserve to assert its regulatory authority over financial investment activities that accelerate the climate crisis and threaten the U.S. and Global economy.

WHERE: St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank, 1 Federal Reserve Bank Plaza, 63102
WHY: A key mandate of the Federal Reserve is to assess and account for risks to the U.S. economy. We are calling on them to fulfill their mandate to acknowledge and act upon the extreme risks to the U.S. economy posed by rapidly accelerating climate impacts, and the portion of the economy directly involved in making the climate crisis worse, activities which must rapidly stop to retain a path towards a livable future.
“We are heading back to the Federal Reserve in 2022 to continue the campaign begun in 2021, initially pressuring President Biden to appoint climate champions to the Federal Reserve Board. President Biden did that, although there is still push back in the Senate on approving some of his nominees. We are demanding that the Senate confirm nominees to complete the Board, and that the newly reconstructed Board develop a systematic and comprehensive plan to force financial institutions, and the fossil fuel corporations they fund, to align their activities to the commitments made in the Paris Climate Accord of 2015.”
