Meetup starts at 6:30pm, with 30 minutes of social time. Beginning at 7pm, Mark Volkmann (http://java.ociweb.com/mark/) will present Using ES6 Today.

ECMAScript 6 (http://wiki.ecmascript.org/doku.php?id=harmony:specification_drafts) (ES6) brings many cool features to JavaScript. However, if you wait until all major browsers support every feature before you begin using them, you'll be waiting a long time! There is a solution though – Google Traceur (https://github.com/google/traceur-compiler). This tool generates ES5 code from ES6 code.

In this talk Mark will describe how you can use this tool to enable use of ES6 features today. He will cover Traceur, JSHint support for validating ES6 code, and sourcemaps for debugging ES6 code in a modern browser.

Starting about 8:30pm, we'll move into a hacking session to experiment with the material that's been presented, and with JavaScript and Node.js in general.

Adaptive Solutions Group will be sponsoring complementary sodas and sandwiches, and you're welcome to BYOB, so come hungry, come thirsty, bring your laptop and be ready to code!
