Bubble Tea Time: Body Image and Self Esteem

About Bubble Tea Time:

In hopes of understanding how diverse the Asian American experience is, we are hosting twice monthly Bubble Tea Time. This will be where we can discuss different topics regarding Asian America (gender, class, mental health, immigration, sexuality, etc.) The hope of these discussions is not to figure out what is the right way of being Asian American but to understand how diverse Asian America is.

Topic: This Bubble Tea Time will center on the topic of body image and self esteem.

- How have cultural or stereotyped views towards Asian masculinity and femininity affected your perception of yourself?

-What is your relationship to food like? Has it affected your body image? If so, how?

-How do you define beauty? How does your definition vary from those of your family, friends, or larger society?

Format: Open Dialogue, storytelling

We will start by introducing the topic in a full group setting followed by a quick group activity. Suggested discussion prompts will then be provided for small group conversations. Pending time and interest, we will then reconvene as a whole group for a share out of what was discussed. We will conclude by sharing resources for diving further into this topic for those interested.
